Martha Hernández is the  Executive Director for Californians Together, a coalition of 25 statewide professional, parent and civil rights organizations focused on improving schooling for English learners by promoting equitable educational policy.  She has 42 years of public school experience at the classroom, school, district and county levels as well as her involvement in numerous state committees.  She was appointed by the California State Board of Education to serve as the Co-Chair of the California ELA/ELD Curriculum Framework and Evaluation Criteria Committee. Her work now focuses on equitable English learner assessment and accountability, the expansion of biliteracy and the implementation of the California English learner policy, the English Learner Roadmap.

Californians Together has four priority areas of focus:  Biliteracy and Bilingualism, EL Roadmap Implementation, Assessment and Accountability and English learner and Bilingual Teacher Workforce.  In addition, we have a variety of projects and initiatives including the English Learner Leadership and Legacy Initiative (ELLLI),and Supporting Immigrant and Refugee Students Project (SIRS), and the English Learner Roadmap Implementation for Systemic Excellence (EL RISE!).
