Karin Linn-Nieves, Director of Language & Literacy for the San Joaquin County Office of Education, has facilitated professional learning for educators of English learners for over 25 years. She has co-authored many state and countywide English learner authorizations implemented over two decades and has facilitated multi-year English Learner Leadership and Advocacy Institutes. Karin serves as the Region 6 EL Specialist for Title III technical assistance and supports schools and districts in EL program design and implementation of integrated and designated ELD. She served on the CA EL Roadmap task force, which articulates a common vision and mission for educating English learners and supports LEAs as they implement the State Board policy. She recently authored a chapter entitled, “Supporting 3rd-8th grade English Learners with Science Informational Texts Through Summer School Teacher Professional Learning” in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners and STEAM. Currently, Karin and her team are leading the statewide ‘ELPAC in the Classroom, Implications for Classroom Instruction’ professional learning.
